MEETING WITH THE FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF CUBA HIS EXCELLENCY SALVADOR VALDÉS MESA
AT CABINET OFFICES

I am hounored to welcome you Your Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Cuba and your delegation to the Cabinet offices and to the Kingdom of Eswatini this afternoon.
Your presence here today is a confirmation of the enduring and cordial relationship that is enjoyed by our two sister countries. We may be geographically far apart but our friendship remains strong and resilient, solidified by our common interest of improving the lives of our people.
The Republic of Cuba has been a true friend to Emaswati for many years, providing much needed assistance in different fields, especially in the sector of health.
I take this opportunity to thank your Government and people Your Excellency for the role that Cuban doctors have played in Eswatini in assisting to improve our health interventions and helping with providing the necessary medical care for Emaswati through our hospitals. Currently we have 21 specialist Cuban doctors in our hospitals through the generosity of the Cuban Government.
As a country we have intensified the process of training more doctors and medical personnel to meet the health needs of the Kingdom and achieve our goal of a healthy nation. For that reason, we appreciate the intervention of our friends from Cuba in assisting us meet our health goals.
Both our countries have also agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the education sector. Eswatini has a lot to learn gain from the Cuban educational system which enjoys worldwide recognition. Your Excellency, education is the cornerstone from which our development and economic growth rests. As a country we value the positive spin-offs of quality education and we are glad that your country is willingly to join hands with us to strengthen our educational system.
In addition, we recognize the important role your country has played in the liberation of many countries in our region and the world.
Once again may I take this opportunity to welcome you to Eswatini and to appreciate the friendship of the Government and people of the Republic of Cuba. I wish you a pleasant stay and successful engagements as you continue with your schedule in our beautiful Kingdom.
