International Conventions

The following International Conventions and Protocols have been approved by Cabinet and are currently before Parliament for ratification:

1. The Convention on People Living with Disabilities

2. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on People living with Disability.

3. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography

4. The Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the Involvement of Children in Armed Conflict

5. The Hague Convention on Inter Country Adoptions

6. The African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children

 

The Convention on the Rights of the Child has already been ratified. More information on these instruments can be sought from the website of the various treaty bodies of the United Nations.

CELEBRATING DAY OF THE AFRICAN CHILD AT SIPHOFANENI INKHUDLA

Swaziland as a signatory to the SADC protocol celebrated the day of the African child which is usually held on the June , 16 each year. The National Children's Coordination Unit is responsible for coordinating this event with the assistance of stakeholders. this year's theme is ''Khulis'umntfwana" will be launched at Siphofaneni Inkhundla. The aim is to roll out the awareness on the importance of Child protection and welfare.

NATIONAL GENDER POLICY LAUNCH

Yesterday the Deputy Prime Minister's Office launched the national Gender Policy at Mavuso trade centre, a colourful event which was graced by the presence of Her Majesty the Queen Mother of Swaziland. The approval by Cabinet of the Gender policy came at a critical stage when the country is due for reporting on progress as it is a signatory to the Geneva Conventions. As a country it took us ten years to develop the policy and hope it's implementation will benefit the Swazi citizens... 

 

 

 

DPM visits GogoNkhosi

Yesterday the Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku visited Gogo Nkhosi of Nkambeni to hand over a house which has been constructed by the Office after her hut was burnt down. The elderly women lives alone and had no means of recovering her burnt structure....
