THE ACCOUNTANT GENERAL’S OFFICE

Mandate:

Section18 of the finance Management and Audit act of 1967 as amended in 1992 requires that the Treasury Department prepares and submit consolidated Annual Financial Statements for all Ministries and Department to the Auditor General within six (6) months after year end.

Besides being mandated by the Act, the Consolidated Financial statement is meant to provide a summary of Government Financial resources and their application for the benefit of the citizens.

In accordance with section 201 of the Financial Instructions as mandated by the act the Accountant-General exercises on behalf of the Ministry of Finance the general management and supervision of all the accounting operations of the Government

• To improve and maximise revenue collection
• To improve tax compilation
• To close the revenue gap within the shortest time possible

GOVERNMENT STORES

Objectives

• To provide effective buying services to supply goods and services at minimum cost to Government
• Provide adequate office stationery and machinery to client Ministries and departments
• Maximise the collection of unserviceable Government property from regional centres for safe custody before public auction sales are conducted
• Targeting and planning periodic provision of face value receipts to regional revenue offices and departmental outlets
• Placing orders for printing travel documents and other valuable face value receipts
• Update opening and closing stock of stores ledgers
• Safe keeping of keys to unoccupied Government houses
