Mandate
The grain legume section is mandated to promote grain legume crop production in the country in terms of increased quantity and quality of the legume crop for food security. The section in the season 2007/08 conducted seminars, demonstrations, meetings, field tours for both the extension staff and farmers. The section in addition produced grain legume production guides, gross margins and radio messages for the farmers.
The grain legume crops of major focus of the section were dry beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), jugo bean or bambara groundnut (vigna subterrariea), cowpea (Vigna unguiculata), groundnuts (Arachis hypogaea), mung bean (Vigna radiate), soya bean (Gylcine max), pegeon pea (Cajans cajan) and sesame (Sesamum indicum L.).
