A Water Chemist and four Lab technicians man the Laboratory Section. This section reports to the Water Control Section, which is responsible for overall water control issues in the country.
The section is responsible for monitoring the water quality in the country's rivers so as to advise the department and interested stakeholders on the water quality situation. Activities of the section include:
o Carrying-out of effluent and water analysis tests;
o Water Quality Sampling (there are 81 water sampling points spread throughout the country);
o Documentation and control of laboratory stores;
o Documentation and enforcement of laboratory safety procedures; and
o Advising the water control section and water users on the water quality situation.
